Bloomington South is an award winning comprehensive four-year high school with an enrollment of approximately 1,800 students. Those who volunteer here will be glad to see that service opportunities for our Panther students and the community are alive and well.

Bloomington High School South strives to meet the needs of all students in order to produce engaged and informed citizens who participate in community, excel in higher education, and succeed in the work place.

When students struggle, we believe in providing timely, systemic and directive opportunities to give them support.

Description:
Bloomington South is one of four high schools operated by the Monroe County Community School Corporation which serves approximately 10,500 students in grades K-12. We are blessed to have a community, faculty and student body committed to every student doing their individual best.

We help students reach their goals by sharing information and facilitating discussions through our Professional Learning Communities. Our guiding questions serve as the foundation to guide our decisions about student learning.

  1. What do we want students to learn?
  2. How do we know they have learned?
  3. What do we do when students don’t learn?
  4. What do we do when students do learn?

Our commitment to helping students reach their individual goals results in various accomplishments for our students. This excellence can be demonstrated by our students in classroom through their results on assessments like AP and SAT. We are also very pleased to sponsor various philanthropic projects and participate with great success in extra-curricular activities including bands, choirs, theater presentations and athletics.

History:
South has a long history of academic success and is setting the bar for philanthropy opportunities for our students and the community. In the fall we participate in Hoosiers Outrun Cancer, Run for the End Zone, sponsor a food drive and a blood drive. In the winter we focus on Holiday Child, and we partner with all of our elementary schools to sponsor hundreds of students who have needs from socks to soccer balls, glasses to warm jackets and every toy in between. In the spring we sponsor another blood drive, a Dance Marathon for Riley Children's Hospital and a volunteer fair in conjunction with the BVN.

Helpings Hands, Student Council, STAND South, National Honor Society, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), Youth in Action, Connections (through Big Brothers and Big Sisters) Diversity Club, Panther Activity Council and many other groups sponsor other activities throughout the year. Peer tutoring, screenings of Invisible Children, presentations on positive decision making, and mentoring are just some of the other activities that student groups sponsor throughout the year.
