The Quad City Health Initiative (QCHI) is a community partnership that exists to create a healthy community. Our definition of a healthy community includes all aspects of our region’s physical, mental, economic, social and environmental health including issues of access, affordability and quality. The Initiative will be our community's recognized leader for creating collaborative action on health. Because of QCHI, entities with aligned goals are able to sustain work across organizational boundaries and geographic borders and thus improve our community's health status and quality of life.

Description:
The QCHI emerged out of the interest of over 300 community members and leaders in improving the health of the Quad City region. In 1999, the QCHI established an Executive Committee and a community Board, including over 30 representatives of local health departments, providers, insurers, social service agencies, educators, businesses, media, law enforcers, foundations and governments.

History:
To date, the QCHI has led and/or partnered in projects to address access to dental care, nutrition and exercise patterns, heat related illness prevention, access to children’s health insurance, tobacco use, and teenage pregnancy among other issues. Our current projects are Smiles for All, Wellness Champions and QC Hearts & Minds: Building Bridges, a new project addressing mental health issues. Our current affiliate projects are Tobacco-Free QC, and Activate Quad Cities. QCHI is also a key participant in the Health Facts Card Task Force, Illowa Partners in Nursing and the Community Vitality Task Force.
