WACOSA provides employment and community living opportunities to individuals with developmental disabilities, Traumatic Brain Injury and Mental Illness. Our mission is to provide persons with disabilities the opportunity to work and live as independently as possible in their communities.
Description:
WACOSA provides services to over 500 individuals in St. Cloud, Waite Park, Sauk Centre and surrounding areas. We provide transportation to access our services for individuals through out Stearns County. Employment and training is provided in our Waite Park and Sauk Centre production centers, on community crews and through individual placement with community employers. We also have a retirement program at Whitney Senior Center for individual who have retired from work but want to stay active in their communities.We use volunteers most frequently in our non-work activities, assisting with classes of interest to volunteers such as sewing, cooking, martial arts, career exploration, arts, etc.
History:
WACOSA celebrated 48 years of service to people with disabilities in 2011. We began in 1963 when parents who had children with disabilities needed a place for their adult children to go to take part in activities of daily living, crafts etc. WACOSA was born our of this effort and was ultimately incorporated as a non-profit organization. Today, WACOSA serves approximately 470 individuals on any given day and served a total of 509 individuals in 2010.
