The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden fosters the conservations of California native plants through our gardens, education and research, and serves as a role model of sustainable practices.
Description:
Located on 78 acres in the foothills just above the city, the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden features exquisite exhibits of California native plants displayed in beautiful landscaped settings. Walk along a meadow, through a canyon and redwood forest, across a historic dam, and along ridge tops that offer sweeping views of the Channel Islands.
History:
Established in 1926 as an educational and scientific institution, the Botanic Garden is the oldest botanic garden in California dedicated to the study, conservation, and display of native flora.

Directions
From the South: Take U.S. Hwy 101 north to the Mission Street exit. Turn right (toward the hills) at the off-ramp stop light.
From the North: Take U.S. Hwy 101 south to the Mission Street exit. Turn left (toward the hills) at the off-ramp stop light.
Proceed on Mission Street to Santa Barbara Street.
- Look for the brown and white "Botanic Garden" signs.
- Turn left onto Santa Barbara Street, proceed two blocks to the first stop sign at Los Olivos Street.
- Turn right onto Los Olivos Street and drive past Mission Santa Barbara.
- Continue north toward the mountains to the stop sign at Foothill Road (Highway 192).
- Turn right onto Foothill Road; proceed to the stop sign at Mission Canyon Road.
- Turn left onto Mission Canyon Road.
- Bear right at the fork of Mission Canyon Road and Tunnel Road.
- Proceed about 1/2 mile; the Garden is on the left at 1212 Mission Canyon Road (look for a large sign at the entry to the parking lot.)
