As a member of the Volunteer Centers of Washington State and the Volunteer Center National Network, we contribute expertise in four core areas of strength: we connect people with opportunities to serve, we build the community’s capacity for effective, local volunteering, we promote volunteering, and we participate in strategic initiatives that mobilize volunteers to meet community needs.

Description:
We are the Volunteer Center for your community. We connect people with opportunities to serve by offering long-term, short-term, one day and episodic volunteer opportunities through our volunteer matching database at www.volunteer.ws. There are more than 650 opportunities on the database now and the list is growing. But the Center uses more than the database to help people get engaged. We organized Days of Caring events for the United Way of Thurston County, promoted the Family Volunteer Challenge, provide opportunities for volunteers to help their community through a holiday meals program, our medical transportation program and joint projects with local schools for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. All told, the Center provides about 3,000 volunteer referrals per year and over 175 additional volunteers participated in events, projects and programs through the Center over the course of the year.

History:
The Volunteer Center is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization that excites and engages volunteers to build better communities. Since we were incorporated in 1990, we have fulfilled this mission by connecting people with opportunities to serve, teaching volunteer management skills to organizations that use volunteers and promoting volunteerism in our community.
