AARP is dedicated to enhancing quality of life for all as we age. We lead positive social change and deliver value to members through information, advocacy and service. AARP's vision is a society in which everyone ages with dignity and purpose, and in which AARP helps people fulfill their goals and dreams.
Description:
AARP Ohio represents 1.6 million AARP members in Ohio. We provide information and advocacy on issues of importance to older Ohioans and all generations. In 2009, AARP Ohio is focused on state and national health reform and a unified Ohio state budget for long-term care. Staff and volunteers work in partnership to achieve AARP's social impact goals. Today AARP has nearly 40 million members age 50+. About half are retired; half are still working. Many are members of the "sandwich generation" caring for their children and their elderly parents. AARP members receive AARP The Magazine, featuring lifestyle issues and articles and AARP Bulletin, featuring advocacy and issue information.
History:
AARP was founded in 1958 by Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, a retired principal and teacher. In 2003, AARP celebrated its accomplishment of opening opened an office in every state plus Washington DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. AARP Ohio was opened in 1996. Located in downtown Columbus across from the Ohio Statehouse, AARP Ohio serves all Ohioans.
