The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government shall provide quality park land, recreational facilities, programs and open space for all.
Description:
The Division of Parks and Recreation is responsible for 105 parks, 6 Community Centers, 6 Golf Courses, 2 Natural Areas, 4 Aquatic Centers, 6 Swimming Pools, 2 Disk Golf Courses, 7 Rental Facilities, more than 20 Fitness and Walking Trails, Pedal Boat Facilities, a Skate Park and more in Fayette County. Parks and Recreation offers a variety of youth and adult athletic programs and leagues for a variety of sports, including football, softball, basketball and cheerleading. There are also programs and locations for Senior Citizens, and Special Events for all citizens, such as, Bluegrass 10,000, Big Band & Jazz, Ballet Under the Stars, the Woodland Art Fair, Festival Latino and Little Goblins Galore. Therapeutic Recreation opportunities for individuals with disabilities are also available in the following programs: Fall Festival Dance, Adult Fitness, Bowling, Basic Horsemanship classes and Aquatics Fun. Therapeutic Recreation also hosts the top wheelchair basketball teams from across the United States in the Annual Bluegrass Wheelchair Basketball Tournament.
