The Iowa City Community School District Foundation generates and assists others in generating financial resources to enhance the education of all students within the District.

Description:
The Iowa City Community School District Foundation is a private, non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to generating private funding support for unfunded needs in the Iowa City public schools. Funds are generated for specific programs and projects identified by the District as important pieces in a comprehensive curricular program for K-12 students. In addition, annual Excellence Fund grants are awarded across the district that impact all curricular areas, ages and grades. The amount of funding provided for the grants is dependent on the number of private contributions received each year. The ICCSD Foundation also assists groups in generating funds for capital campaigns throughout the District (i.e. playgrounds, campus improvements, sports facilities).

History:
The ICCSD Foundation began in 1981 when the local school board asked a group of concerned parents and community members to study ways to add funds to the school district budget. Constant state budget cuts and shortfalls were seen as a real threat to the quality of education in the District. It was determined that establishing a private foundation would best facilitate additional funding for the school district. The initial focus of the ICCSDF was computer technology and the ICCSDF purchased the district's first desktop computer. Over the years the Foundation has funded equipment, programs and projects in all areas of curriculum throughout the school district. Their goal is to "reach every child, every year" through their efforts.

Directions:

The ICCSD Foundation office is located in the Iowa City Community School District Central Administration Office building. The main entrance is located off Harrison St. across the street from the main post office, with parking lots to the west and south of the building.
