Xenophon is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children with special needs by providing a high quality program of therapeutic horseback riding and related activities.
Description:
We work with children between the ages of 5 and 17, who have a variety of physical and cognitive disabilities. Using horses as a therapeutic vehicle provides our children with a new sense of independence and freedom of movement, as well as the opportunity to develop muscle tone and hand-eye coordination.
History:
Xenophon Therapeutic Riding Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We have been in continuous operation since our incorporation in 1992. Xenophon is a Premier Accredited Center with the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA), and we are the only accredited therapeutic riding center in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. PLEASE NOTE: Xenophon will be closed for winter from November 19, 2011 through March 2012 and will not be accepting volunteers during this time. We look forward to working with you upon our return this Spring!

I'm a student and was looking for a volunteer oportunity with horses. The program is well-run, the horses are happy and welll-trained, and the kids are a pleasure to work with. This is an excellent opportunity for fit volunteers who enjoy the outdoors and working with animals. posted on September 28, 2005 |
