We enhance the health and well being of people in the communities we serve through a not for profit commitment to compassion and excellence in health care services.
Description:
We provide hospice care (end of life care) to patients in their homes, in skilled nursing facilities and in Board and Care facilities through out San Mateo County. We also have a fledgling children's bereavement program to support childen and adolescents in San Mateo County who have experienced the death of a loved one (see specific ad for children's bereavement program). Hospice volunteers: read to patients; they give family members a break once a week; they take patients outside as weather, and health, permit;some do life review with their patients, some play music, or make art, some volunteers offer massage. If you have the compassion and time to spend up to 4 hours per week with a hospice patient, PLEASE send me an email, or call 650/685-2803. We have other branch offices in Emeryville, Concord, San Francisco, Sacramento, Roseville, Santa Rosa and Sacramento. I'm happy to refer you if one of these branches is more convenient for you. Please note that our patients represent every nationality and language hence the request for folks who are bi cultural and/or bilingual (see list below of languages needed).
History:
This agency began when nurses from the Berkeley Free Clinic began visiting the injured and sick immediately following the earthquake of 1906. Visits were made by nurses to the tent cities that sprung up around the area the hospital served. Over the years this agency, like most health care agencies, have under gone mergers and acquisitions and is now part of Sutter Health. We've just celebrated our centennial year.
