History:
"LOVING FRIENDS" Na Hoaloha (Hawaiian for “loving friends”) – is a volunteer organization whose mission is to assist seniors to remain independent and in their homes. With the help of a Robert Wood Johnson Grant, Na Hoaloha was formed in 1995 by a dedicated group of individuals, including Marie Smith, former President of AARP, a Maui resident at that time. Since its inception, the organization has focused its efforts on the “gap group” -- people who fall through the “pukas” (holes) of the government service system. "SAFETY NET" PROVIDER Increasingly, Na Hoaloha serves people who qualify for community services but are unable to receive them because of long wait lists. Thus, Na Hoaloha has become the island’s “safety-net” provider.
SERVICES FROM THE HEART The strength of Na Hoaloha is in its volunteer base. When other agencies are unable to hire someone to provide basic and essential services to people in need, Na Hoaloha has consistently been able to find a volunteer who will provide these services “from the heart.”

A Dearly Loved Friend
 |
Two years ago I experienced severe health problems and I asked for assistance for someone to accompany me to medical appointments and to help me with shopping trips. Adele helps in every way, and has largely been responsible for getting my life back on track (at 86!) Thank you for putting her in my life. She is an incredible and a dearly loved friend.” posted on November 18, 2011 |

The best medicine I had in years
 |
I had a problem sorting paperwork and because I have MS my stress levels were affecting my health. Then MIVC came to my rescue in a most unusual way. They paired me up with a 16 year old girl and she became my treasure. She listened to what I needed, was always on time, and recommended some better ideas than I had for organizing. I came to think of her as a friend and certainly as one of Maui's outstanding youth! It is wonderful to know that people like this exist. I know her life will be full of wonderful experiences and that many people will benefit from her caring nature.
