The mission of the Ice Age Trail Alliance (formerly Ice Age Park & Trail Foundation) is to create, support and protect a thousand-mile footpath tracing Ice Age formations across Wisconsin. The Dane County Chapter performance includes landscape restoration, educational outreach, and encouraged cooperation with individuals and organizations in furthering this mission.

Description:
In Dane County, about 30 out of 60 miles of the Ice Age Trail are complete. We have a number of Trail segments that are open for hiking. From the north: Lodi Marsh State Wildlife Area, Indian Lake County Park, Table Bluff, Cross Plains, Valley View, Verona, Badger State RailTrail, Montrose and the Brooklyn State Wildlife Area.

As a volunteer organization there are many aspects of involvement; whether it's recreational, stewardship, advocacy or promotional events, we welcome you to join a mammoth amount of fun.

History:
The Ice Age Park & Trail Foundation (now Alliance) was established in 1958 based on the vision of Ray Zillmer, and is a tax-exempt, charitable membership organization. The Ice Age National Scenic Trail is one gem in the National Park Service Trails System. With the support of the IAPTF and politicians such as former Congressman Henry Reuss, it was designated as a National Scenic Trail in 1980. It basically follows the terminus of the glaciers from the last ice age through Wisconsin.
