American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter
| Last updated on February 2, 2012 |
The American Red Cross is a volunteer-led humanitarian organization. The Red Cross mobilizes people to help their neighbors in times of crisis around the world, across the country, or just down the street.
The American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter serves the communities of Pierce, Thurston, Mason, Lewis and Grays Harbor Counties through the support and generous contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations, and our amazing, dedicated volunteers.
Description:
Compassion In Action
The most common disaster the Red Cross responds to is actually a house or apartment fire. Locally, the Red Cross assists a family devastated by a fire nearly every 48 hours in the South Sound. These routine “Silent Disasters” hardly ever capture the headlines or people’s attention, but for the families who have lost everything – the results are devastating.
Red Cross Disaster Services: During a disaster response, Red Cross disaster volunteers provide for the immediate emergency needs such as food, clothing, temporary shelter, medication replacement, casework, community referrals, and compassion to individuals affected by local disasters.
Service to the Armed Forces (SAF): Red Cross military casework volunteers verify and transmit emergency messages between sevice members and their military families during a crisis.
Twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year, the Red Cross sends these vital communications so service members may request leave to be by the bedside of a seriously ill child, attend the funeral of a loved one, take care of complicated family issues, or simply hear news regarding the birth of a baby.
Health & Safety: In an emergency, every second counts! Would you know what to do if a loved one or co-worker suddenly collapsed? If you have not been trained in Red Cross first aid, CPR, and AED training - do so today! A life may depend on it!
Our local Red Cross offers first aid / CPR/ AED training, aquatics, babysitter’s training, HIV/AIDS prevention education and much more. Red Cross health & safety volunteers are needed to teach these lifesaving classes.
