United Way of Lane County, the Volunteer Connection & RSVP, together with partners AARP Tax Aide, City of Eugene, Internal Revenue Service, SELCO have joined to reach out to employers, businesses, service agencies and tax payers. Financial Stability Partnership wants to be sure the community has information about tax credits they may be eligible to receive and that they need not pay to have their taxes prepared by a trained individual. In order to see that there are adequate opportunities for Lane County residents, we are seeking volunteers to staff 12 AARP Tax Aide sites from the beginning of February through April 15, 2008. Training is free and available either at a staffed one week training or self-directed on-line training. Tax Aide Greeter: AARP Tax Aide provides free tax preparation for middle to low income individuals and families and with special attention to those over 60 or with disabilities. The Tax Site Greeter is the first contact for persons seeking assistance. Greeters welcome clients, schedule appointment or take names for waiting lists, complete the basic intake form and check that the client has all necessary paperwork with them. Greeters also assist the preparers with copying and filing. There is a short training and orientation that is provided for greeters, approximately 2 hours in length. Times, dates and places for these trainings are to be announced. Greeters are needed on weekdays, Saturdays and on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 12 sites in Eugene/Springfield, Junction City, and Cottage Grove. Volunteers are reimbursed for mileage.
