Bloomington High School South is seeking adults to serve as science, math, English and social studies tutors after-school on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday from 3:00-4:30 p.m. ABOUT THE PROGRAM: PACE - Panthers Achieving Credits and Enrichment - is an after school program, in its fourth year at South, for students who need additional academic support. It is required for students who have missed three or more assignments for one class, but about half the students attend voluntarily, seeking a structured place to receive help with coursework.
WHEN: PACE sessions occur each week on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00-4:30 pm in the BHSS library. Teachers and staff will supervise, answer questions, and provide assistance. Volunteers commit to one session per week, although it is okay to miss from time to time.
REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers should feel comfortable working with high school-aged students and have a sincere desire to help them succeed in their coursework. Math tutors should be comfortable with algebra and geometry. Non-math tutors do not need to be highly knowledgeable in their subject, as they will simply be helping students comprehend their textbooks, work through assignments, and write papers. All volunteers must be willing to go through a limited criminal history check and a brief orientation.
