Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on July 25, 2011 |
The SIS Program matches pregnant and parenting young women with adult female volunteers. Volunteers meet weekly with their young mom to offer friendship and support with parenting and other life skills. Many young moms of various ages and life circumstances are waiting for a mentor. Here is a description of one: Chasity is a 21-year-old mother of an adorable 4-month-old daughter. Cassie is a high school graduate and lives with her mother in a townhome on the North East side of Grand Rapids. Cassie is very eager to find a job and get her own apartment. Cassie would like to spend time with a volunteer who can offer advice and support as she tries to make good choices for herself and her daughter. Cassie would like to take walks, go to the park or zoo and learn more about cooking and baking. Please consider mentoring Cassie or another young mom!
Volunteers must be adult women over age 21. College students younger than 21 may be considered. Volunteers must have a driver's license and a vehicle. This opportunity is sponsored by: D.A. Blodgett - St. John's

Overall Experience

This will be my first time volunteering.
 |
I haven't volunteered yet but is looking forward to it. I'm a mother of 4 and was a single mother for 14 years. I'm a high school grad and have taken some college classes stopped because of children and has now re-entered as a full time student and working full-time with twins 15 months. I just feel like I should give back because I have been so blessed with everything I have and will have in the future. posted on September 11, 2007 |

Overall Experience

during my high school year I volunteer to work with disabled kids.
 |
During my 11th grade in high school.
For the whole year I was assisting a student that is paralyzed from the neck.
Helping others helped me understand others and feel for their needs, it made me stronger in standing up for people that are not able to speak up for themselves. posted by Mlap on July 19, 2004 |
