You can help the American Red Cross prevent and alleviate human suffering in your community as a trained Disaster Action Team (DAT) Member. DAT volunteers are among the first to respond to home fires, disasters and other local incidents to help neighbors in need. They also provide support for local emergency response partners.
Example:
A home in your neighborhood catches fire. Along with the Fire Department, your local Red Cross DAT responds. Volunteers provide emotional support for the individual or family that just lost everything they own. They ensure people have the resources for food, temporary lodging, clothing, and other essentials. They also help them with a plan for moving forward after a fire.
