Who We Are
In 1924, the doors of the Robert Loveman Memorial Library opened to the public, housed in the upstairs clubroom of the Frank Pruden Building. In August, 1924, the family of Loveman gave the library the former home of the poet. The home, known as the "Robin's Nest" was remodeled several times to accommodate the growing collection. By 1947, the book collections were too big for the "Robin's Nest" and a new location was needed. The Dalton Woman's Club purchased the W. C. Martin home and converted it into a new library. In 1948, they gifted the building to the Dalton Regional library. In 1955, a new wing was added, and in 1965, a bookmobile garage was built. Even with the expansions, the building was outgrown by 1980. Today's library opened in its current location in 1982. As it has grown and technology has changed, the building has adapted for continued use. The library offers a variety of services and materials, such as books, DVDs, computers, electronic resources, programs for all ages, and computer classes. Throughout its many changes, Dalton-Whitfield County Library remains dedicated to serving the community in the best possible way.
