Sound The Alarm, Save A Life
Join our growing movement.
American Red Cross volunteers, fire departments and partners aim to install 1,300 free smoke alarms across Georgia. Working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death from home fires in half. That’s why we’re rallying volunteers to ~Sound the Alarm~. Experience a rewarding day connecting with other volunteers and the families you’ll help. Together, across Georgia, we’ve made more than 25,000 homes safer.
What?
Partnering with the local fire department, volunteers will canvass a predesignated neighborhood to offer free installation of smoke alarms to all residents. During the short 15-minute visit, volunteers will install the alarms, educate the family on fire safety tips, and help create a home fire escape plan. If children are present in the home, volunteers will assist the children in practicing the escape plan. Volunteers work on teams of 3-4, so the workload during the visit will be split amongst the group members. Volunteers will need to attend our kickoff event that morning which will include a brief training of their chosen role. Teams will then canvass neighborhoods to install alarms and meet back at the command post for lunch and debrief. If needed, volunteers will complete their routes after lunch, then report back to command to return all equipment and paperwork.
